Use your own Domain for your Minecraft Server – CNAME Record

If you have a specific domain that you want to use for your Minecraft server, you can create a CNAME record. This way you can use your domain to redirect players to your Pockethost server. Here you learn how.

Creating a CNAME Record

To create a CNAME record for your Minecraft server, you need to have access to your domain’s DNS settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. Log in to the account or website where you manage your domain’s DNS settings. This could be your domain registrar or a DNS hosting provider.
  2. Locate the DNS management section or the option to manage DNS records for your domain.
  3. Look for the option to add a new record and select the CNAME record type.
  4. In the hostname or alias field, enter the subdomain or prefix you want to use for your Minecraft server. For example, if you want to use “play” as the subdomain, your record will look like:
  5. In the destination or target field, enter the domain name of your Minecraft server. This will be you Pockethost domain, looking like:
  6. Save or apply the changes. The record creation process might take some time to propagate across the DNS system, usually a few minutes to a few hours.

Using your Domain

Once the CNAME record is created, players will be able to connect to your Minecraft server using the subdomain you specified. For example, if you used “play” as the subdomain, players can connect to your server by entering “” as the server address in their Minecraft client.

Note that creating a CNAME record alone is not sufficient for players to connect to your Minecraft server. You also need to ensure that your server is properly configured, port-forwarded (if necessary), and accessible from the internet. These conditions are of course fulfilled if you host your server with Pockethost.
